About the time Aviary 2 by Joel Dewberry came out I started lusting after it. I always loved the yellow/gray combination, it just seemed to fit my decor so well. It took a solid year to finally get the guts to order it and even more guts to cut it up. I literally was shaking when I brought my rotary cutter down for the first cut!
Once I got into the swing of things my confidence picked up! I've been motoring along (ummm... Motoring like someone with a new born hanging off of them, a 4 year old constantly twirling underfoot and a 2.5 year old who cannot get his daily hug quota filled)! This will be a big quilt when it's completed and I am planning on slapping one of those beautiful Anna Marie Horner feathers on the back using my scraps from this quilt. If you're unfamiliar with AMH's feathers feel free to check them out yourself or click on my Sew Something category on
Pinterest !
Anyway, here's some of my progress!
These blocks aren't sewn together, but they are just irresistible! I'm having a hard time deciding on how to place them because every combination is so awesome! There will be a border made of the black damask, second in on the right. The middle fabric is incredible, it's a yellow wood grain. Be still my beating heart...
Oh, I can hardly wait to finish my blocks and start putting this one together!
The current plan is to leave the patterned fabric untouched by quilting, and just outline those sweet little birds wherever they pop up. The solid will be done in an echoed straight line quilting. (Unless I get some feedback and you think I should do woodgrain quilting? I am leaning towards straight line... If anyone is out there let me know what you think.)
